In teaching the notes, we have ascribed to each note a particular color which expresses the general feeling of that tone. The worksheets drill tracing shapes, coloring shapes, choosing particular shapes from varieties of shapes, and matching the shapes to their names. The emphasis at this level is on recognition of shapes and their names.
The last twelve worksheets drill the recognition of note values. Exercises include tracing notes, choosing particular note values from varieties of note values, and filling in the quarter, eighth, and six-teenth notes.
The use of these worksheets should be accompanied by flash card drill, scale drill, and the singing of songs. The teacher's guide at the front of the booklet of worksheets suggests musical ideas on a weekly basis to help students develop a diatonic feeling.
